The book incorporates photography and design by Soumitra Ranade.

Young Varsha, perhaps aged around 9 or 10 years old begins to look for her father one morning in her city Varanasi. She has to give him something which he would really require for his work as a tour guide-his spectacles which was forgotten at home.

She wanders moving through the known routes across the city and tries to find him at all the popular and interesting tourist spots. She comes to the ghats to find a familiar picture of tourists taking photographs, to the famous Kashi temple to many more spaces during which she interacts with the known people of the city.

So does Varsha find her dad? If so where does she finally find him?

Do read the book to know more.

The book is also getting launched this 27th at Blossoms book store in Bangalore. We are sharing this video which we loved too (taken from the event page).

See you at the launch! 🙂

The images used in the book are real as though it is a video travelogue. Right from the narrow inner roads that are a signature trademark of the city of Benares to the mosque, to the stores with their images, Varanasi comes alive right in front of you through a simple story and realistic pictures.

There are sections where detailed descriptions are given on the most popular tourist spots that one may definitely want to check when visiting the city. A few like ‘Kachori gali’ where the street comes alive every evening to serve this snack or the ghats that are popular and represent Varanasi as its signature element to a spectacle that many travel to witness –Ganga Arathi.

There is also a fact sheet that may surprise a few who don’t know much on this interesting city Varanasi.

  • There is a special hostel in Varanasi where people check-in to die. It is called the Mukthi Bhavan.
  • The Bharat Mata temple has a huge marble map of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The map shows the mountains and terrains of India to-the-scale as per the geographical readings of the time.

What we did like in particular was the fact that this book gives an interesting insight to the character of the city and does make one wonder and want to travel to Varnasi to know more on magical cities of India.
